IRA DONATIONS
For those 70 1/2 years old and older, you can donate any amount (up to a maximum of $108,000) per year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as The Dallas Area Parkinson Society. By donating from your IRA, there are no income taxes to pay on that money. Gifts of any value $108,000 or less are eligible for this benefit.
This option is commonly called the IRA charitable rollover, but you may also see it referred to as a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD for short.
Benefits of donating through an IRA:
-Your gift can be used immediately to help our North Texas neighbors faced with Parkinson's disease.
-Once you are 73 years old, the donation may be used to satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMD).
-The donation is tax-exempt and beneficial even if deductions are NOT itemized.
-The donation is NOT considered income which can reduce your annual income level, possibly helping to lower
Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of social security that is subject to tax.
For those 59 1/2 - 70 1/2 years old, you may consider taking a distribution. Once the distribution has been received, a gift can be given from your IRA without penalty.
